Do's and Don'ts

Do

  • Check the blog for the season’s start and progress.
  • Aim for the wonderful 10 day peak season period, which usually occurs between late June and mid July, and especially aim for the period when pristine males are searching for freshly emerged females.
  • As a guide, peak Emperor season coincides with when the White Admiral is fully out and Silver-washed Fritillary males are prominent, though the bulk of the Silver-washed Fritillary females is yet to emerge.

Don’t –

  • Leave it too late.  Nowadays, even experienced Emperor watchers struggle to see the butterfly after 20th July.  The ‘tail’ of the season is difficult to work, with much blank time.
  • Believe the text books.
